Introducing Latino Owned (and myself)

Part 1 of Launching Latino Owned

Welcome to Latino Owned! Beyond excited to launch this finally. I can’t believe how fast this community is growing. We’re at about 360 subscribers. 💪

This is part one of Latino Owned. Tomorrow, I will bring an awesome interview with Kat Tinsley, the founder of a new tequila brand, Drink Josefina.

Allow me to introduce myself! My name is Jonathan Roque, and I am a (proud) first-generation Mexican-American. 🇲🇽🇺🇸 I have worked in marketing for over 10 years, with the past 6 years working with Shopify apps and DTC ecommerce brands.

The reality is that for most first-gen entrepreneurs, we’re left figuring it out on our own. Whether it’s taxes, inventory, or simply how to properly market ourselves. It’s tough out here, which is why I hope I can bring content that can help us all on this journey as founders and creators.

(Me)

Outside of my job, I am running my parents jewelry store after their passing. Joyeria La Mexicana JLM has been in my family for more than 30 years. My parents went from farm workers, to packing house workers, to full business owners.

My parents 😃

After my mom’s passing in 2023, we kept the business in the family and have transformed it into a online store, while still keeping our retail store open.

There has been a lot of highs and lows when it comes to transforming retail to online, and in a way starting the business fresh. For example, going from a sole proprietorship to an LLC, or managing Shopify apps from a business side.

Tomorrow, Part 2 of this email will bring an awesome interview with Kat Tinsley, the founder of a new tequila brand, Drink Josefina. 🍸🍹
